New "80s" Music

Just wondering if anyone else has discovered new bands making good "80s sounding" music.

My choices from the past few months are:

VHS Or Beta : NIGHT ON FIRE - A mix of 70s disco and 80s sounds. The singer sounds like Robert Smith from The Cure.

Franz Ferdinand : FRANZ FERDINAND - The guitar work reminds me of early Talking Heads. Very catchy stuff.

Dogs Die In Hot Cars : PLEASE DESCRIBE YOURSELF - Just got this today. It reminds me of several people. Some of it sounds like XTC, Talking Heads (vocal arrangements), Dexy's Midnight Runners.

Scissor Sisters : SCISSOR SISTERS - A mix of 70s disco and 80s. Singer often sounds like Elton John, but not always.

The Killers : HOT FUSS - I LOVE this album. I don't even know how to describe it. Sounds like old new wave but with a thicker/more full sound.

Of course there's always the excellent new albums from Duran Duran and Tears For Fears.

OH MY GOD I remember one night in college trying to find a decent radio station (in Dallas) and stumbled upon this new station which was playing the first of the European electronic invasion music and I thought I must have died and gone to heaven! Or been abducted by aliens! 25 years later, nothing puts a smile on my face than these fabulous groups - and let me tell you, any man who looks as fine as George Michael in leather pants at his age need not be cruising no bathroom for sex - all he has to do is KNOCK ON MY DOOR! (George, baby, are you listening?????) Def Leperd, Go-Go's, Bananarama, GRace Jones, The Pretenders, OMG the list is endless.

Lately, I have been having nostalgic mind sessions while listening to Love and Rockets, remembering my days as a more or less "orignal goth by default" growing up in Los Angeles and this band reminding me so much of the Hollywood area in the '80s. I had fallen in love particularily with Tones on Tail.

I found out they have a Best of Love and Rockets CD out. Here are some of the tracks:

Anyway, just tripping out on Love and Rockets again in a nostalgic daydream of a teenage heaven.

Bronski Beat

Oh my. I pulled out a Bronski Beat CD from my mother's CD collection. Too funny. anyone remember them? They must have been the quintissential gay band of the eighties. Great singer though.

My favorite '80s stuff lately to listen to is The Jam, The Waitresses, and the Prentenders - the last two because I moved to Ohio to go to school. Some good music came out of here if nothing else.

In case any of you hadn't heard yet, singer Laura Branigan, who had several big 80's hits like "Gloria" and "Self-Control," died last week. She was 49 years old.

I think we should remember her by talking about some of her other musical contributions. My personal favorite of hers was the song "Imagination," which Jennifer Beals danced to in the infamous strobe light scene of Flashdance. Any other thoughts about her music or even Laura in general?

What's that song?

Ok Here is all the info I have about my question. The band is Soft Cell/Marc Almond. The time frame to the best of my knowledge was early eighties, not late eighties. The lyrics I can remember are scattered, but here they are: "Oh god it's another day and you head is feeling like a blown up balloon...you should have never eaten that greasy food...." it goes on like that for awhile. The only other part where I could decipher the lyrics is a small fragment where he says "and her chewing gum gets stuck in your hair". Any info such as what album it's from, out of print, still in print, anything would be appreciated. Thanks
