Love and Rockets

Lately, I have been having nostalgic mind sessions while listening to Love and Rockets, remembering my days as a more or less "orignal goth by default" growing up in Los Angeles and this band reminding me so much of the Hollywood area in the '80s. I had fallen in love particularily with Tones on Tail.

I found out they have a Best of Love and Rockets CD out. Here are some of the tracks:

SORTED! The BEST of LOVE AND ROCKETS - CD:

- 15 track compilation selected by Love And Rockets from across their entire career
- Some rare 7” single versions previously unavailable on album
- remastered from original tapes
- new sleeve notes by Love And Rockets

1. Kundalini Express
2. The Dog End Of a Day Gone By
3. Mirror People ‘88 - 7” version
4. Ball Of Confusion - 7” version
5. Yin And Yang - alternate 7” version
6. Holiday On The Moon
7. So Alive
8. Holy Fool
9. No New Tale To Tell
10. No Big Deal - 7” version
11. Haunted When The Minutes Drag
12. It Could Be Sunshine
13. Shelf Life
14. Sweet Lover Hangover
15. Saudade

I don't believe I ever got a hold of any 7" versions of thier songs, but "Ball of Confusion" was supposed to be an '80s dance club hit, though I never felt much like dancing to it. I think they play it in Goth clubs now and again.

Anyway, just tripping out on Love and Rockets again in a nostalgic daydream of a teenage heaven.

I fully know where you are, head-wise, on this - I found myself scrounging around for a copy of Seventh Dream, just so I could listen to Saudade. Memories of Catholic high school, hanging out at Odyssey Imports in Vancouver, trying desperately to Ice Mist my hair up like Daniel's...Fluevog's, long black trenchcoats, white Cure 'Boys Don't Cry' t-shirts, trying to convince the doorman at the Commodore to let me in to see L&R even though I was only 15.

    Good times, good times....

Call me wierd(pauses to get called wierd) but I tend to associate one band with another. For example, both these bands became popular around the same time, so I link them together: Counting Crows and Gin Blossoms. Now I now this is an 80's music tribe, not a 90's music tribe, I have a point, I promise. I have always linked Love and Rockets with the band Flesh for Lulu. Anybody remember them?

Alas, my nickname was foisted upon me as a result of a friend of a friend completely butchering a line from a Kevin Smith film in reference to my (then) resemblance to Silent Bob. Some things stick no matter what...

Let me know how your disc turns out!
